Beschreibung

The Series 3 E-Type was introduced in 1971, to ensure the E-Type continued to appeal to the US-market (Jaguar’s biggest buyer), the wheelbase was lengthened, power steering was added as well as Jaguar’s brand new roadgoing V12 engine. These changes made the E-Type a much more comfortable and capable grand tourer. To keep the E-Type in tune with 1970s design, flared wheel arches were added and a redesigned enclosed grille as well as other, more subtle changes.

We are pleased to offer this stunning early chassis Series 3 Roadster to today's strengthened market. A highly desirable, matching numbers original example, boasting genuine low mileage, low ownership and presented in fabulous original condition.

Manufactured in November 1971, the first year of production for the final E-type series, supplied in left-hand drive and finished in White over Red trim. Given a UK Coventry registration, the E-type was sold as a personal export for a US buyer out of Connecticut in January 1972.

On route to its first owner, the E-type was shipped to France where it boarded the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (French Line) set to arrive in New York, USA early March. An iconic staple of the Maritime Industry, the French Line was entrusted by the French government to transport valuable goods to North America, famed in 1962 by the introduction of the famous SS France, which our brilliant Series 3 example boarded during its journey.

Having arrived to its eagerly waiting first owner 5th March 1972, it is believed the E-type lived a cherished life for the following 8 years residing in Ridgefield, Connecticut. 1980 saw the E-type sold to another local Connecticut resident by the owner’s estate executor, having covered only 5,900 miles since purchase.

Entering into its second and what would be its longest ownership in September 1980, the E-type remained in the New England region of northeastern United States for the next 36 years. Through careful maintenance, this Series 3 remained unrestored and in exceptional condition continuing to cover minimal mileage, recording a further 6,500 miles in 1995, totalling 12,479 on the odometer during an insurance appraisal, listing the car to be in “excellent original condition with no evidence of any metal deterioration” and highlighting “the vehicle is a 90 point and show car.”

In January 2015, after a brief illness, the 2nd owner sadly passed away, resulting in another sale of this highly desirable machine. The following 2 years saw the E-type exchange hands once again and imported into the UK in mid-2017, reclaiming its original Coventry registration and resulting in, what is understood to be a 4 previous owner car.

Today presented in immaculate condition, this early Series 3 chassis is an enthusiast dream, retaining its Heritage correct and beautifully maintained Jaguar Old English White exterior with mouth-watering patinaed Red leather interior, paired with a black vinyl hood. As you position yourself behind an original finished interior with all dials and gauges in full working order, the Series 3 smoothly starts up on the button waking up the original and unrestored V12 5.3L engine. As you select your gear through the original 4-speed transmission, you are effortlessly swept along the road, set to enjoy countless miles in a truly genuine E-type example. This fabulous roadster is accompanied by a host of original documents and manuals mapping out this low mileage and ownership history.
