For almost all classic cars enthusiasts, the Jaguar E-type is high on their list. Especially the Series 1. We are no exception. Even the great Enzo Ferrari, which seems to us to have a preference, described the E-type as ‘the most beautiful car ever’. That indicates that this car was already very special when it was introduced in 1961, and it still is today. We are all the more happy every morning when we enter our showroom and see this Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 OTS in all its beauty.

How did this car come to us? As it is often the case, it just depends on who you know. We received a call from a friend of the owner that he knew of an E-type for sale. An appointment was quickly made and it turned out to be an former garage owner, who had sold his “modern car garage” and had fully devoted himself to his great passion: classics. Now we are talking! There was plenty to say about this English beauty. In terms of history, including the presence of a Heritage Certificate, issued by the Jaguar Heritage Trust, it is known that the car was built on June 30, 1966 and then shipped to the USA. Many invoices show that the car has always been in California. As is known, a dry climate is the best thing that can happen to a car. This is also the case with this OTS, which by the way means Open Two Seater.

In 2017, the Jaguar was brought to the Netherlands and ended up with the mentioned enthusiast. This technician had already restored nine E-Types over the years and knew therefore very well that he had bought an exceptionally good car. The quality is most clearly indicated by the fact that no wing, door panel or otherwise had to be replaced. This is therefore still the same steel with which the Jaguar was built in 1966. In all fairness we must say that there is an exception, and that is the bottom plates. After much deliberation, it was decided to replace it. Certainly not because they were corroded, but they were too dented, probably caused by loading or unloading not very gently. Due to the profiling in these plates, dent removal was actually not an option, because the use of too much filler would have to be applied to get everything really tight again. Since the restorer hated filler, new panels were fitted, which really allows us to claim “perfect” in terms of the bodywork. It is always difficult to judge from a photo, but the fitting of doors, fenders and especially the connections of the hood are really beautiful. This makes the difference between a normal or a perfect restoration. Photos of the bottom and technique shows clearly that nothing has been spared, and that everything has been taken care of.

We can be very brief about driving: the wonderful 4.2 liter 6-cylinder engine is a great engine that has a wonderful torque, and therefore able to drive it very quietly. it is clearly that the E-Type should actually only be driven in an appropriate way. Keeping in mind that one is on the road with an irreplaceable piece of history and an iconic car. Not only because it is an E-Type, but especially because we are dealing here with a copy that is completely matching: not only in terms of numbers, but also the color of the body and interior. And because the restoration was done by a true craftsman, with full preservation of originality. It may seem that this is quite common
, however the opposite is true. That is why we are very happy to have been able to purchase this car, so that we can quietly find the right next owner for it.
