Beschreibung

For half a century, the Indian Motorcycle Company built some of the world’s most admired motorcycles, making the Massachusetts-based manufacturer the largest in the world at one point. Although known for its V-twin models, Indian was also one of the most famous producers of four-cylinder motorcycles, manufacturing the Four from 1928 through 1942.

In 1927, Indian bought the remains of the Ace Motor Corporation and, in doing so, it acquired the designs and tooling of a well-known four-cylinder bike, one that was the fastest in the world in 1920 and conceived by visionary designer William Henderson. These four-cylinder Indians were more luxurious than the contemporary Harley-Davidson V-twins and have become some of the most iconic and collectible American motorcycles of all time.

According to a summary of the motorcycle’s history on file, this example was sold new in Illinois in 1941. It was subsequently sold to an owner in Tennessee in 1959, and later owned by Leo’s Cycles Sales, a famous motorcycle shop in Memphis. It was also previously owned and meticulously restored by collector Peter Guldan of Memphis and ridden frequently by him on AMCA road runs. Finished in an attractive cream and green paint scheme, this four-cylinder Indian 441 would be an outstanding addition to any serious collection of American motorcycles.
