Back in the 1950’s, the apprentices at RAF Halton were strictly forbidden to drive anything on the road on two, three or four wheels. The camp commandant, Air Commodore Tindal-Carrill-Worsely was, however, a keen motor racing enthusiast and actively supported the Halton Racing Car Club. The base itself was a training station for apprentice technicians and so expertise was easily at hand. The work was supervised by Flt. Sgt Fred Hillier, now of Alexander Hillier Engineering, Aylesbury and focused on two particular projects. Tindal-Carrill-Worsely donated a Bukler in 1956 and an Austin 7 was acquired at about the same time.
