Beschreibung
1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth
Registration no. D300 YAN
Chassis no. WFOEXXGBBEGA06536
Engine no. GA06536
The sight of rival manufacturers reaping the rewards of a successful circuit racing programme prompted Ford to renew its alliance with engine builder Cosworth to create the eponymous Sierra in 1985. Based on the three-door Sierra bodyshell, the RS Cosworth combined the standard 1,993cc Pinto engine's cylinder block with a Cosworth-developed 16-valve cylinder head fed by a Garrett AiResearch turbocharger, the latter deemed necessary to achieve a competitive power output for racing, which in time would amount to over 500bhp! Even in road trim the Sierra RS Cosworth produced a staggering 204bhp. Needless to say, the standard Sierra underpinnings were comprehensively up-rated to cope. 6,021 examples had been completed when production ceased in 1987 and today the model is much sought after. Currently displaying a total of around 41,000 miles on the odometer, this example was purchased in 1994 and used regularly until circa 2004 when the doors, tailgate and dashboard panel were replaced and the car re-sprayed at a total cost of £3,000 (bills on file). We are advised that the engine has been 'chipped' by Brodie Racing, producing around 300bhp. Other noteworthy features include a stainless steel exhaust and after-market alloy wheels. Never used for track days and always stored in a Carcoon, the car is described as in generally good condition and offered with current MoT/tax and Swansea V5 document. A rare opportunity to acquire a little used example of one of the most exciting four-seaters of recent times.
