The legendary Carroll Shelby, who famously built and sold the iconic Cobra, had the idea to apply the Shelby magic to Ford’s hot new Mustang.

It was a match made in heaven.

With the introduction of the 1967 models, regular Mustangs could get a 320-bhp 390-cid four-barrel V-8.
Shelby, naturally, went further. His GT 350 retained its 289-cid V-8 with its 306-bhp rating. And a new model, the 1967 Shelby GT 500, got a reworked 428-cid “Police Interceptor.”

The 428 was otherwise reserved for bigger Fords, where it made 345 bhp. Shelby added the cast-aluminum medium-rise intake manifold from Ford’s 427, twin 600-cfm Holley four-barrel carburetors, and other tweaks for a conservative rating of 355 bhp. During manufacture or through dealers,

The 1967 GT 500 had a four-speed manual transmission or a three-speed automatic gearbox.
Instead of true competition-grade underpinnings, the suspension was a fortified version of the Mustang GT’s, with standard front disc brakes and E70X15 tires.
Also gone were the two-seat cabins and standard racing harnesses of the original GT 350.
All 1967 Shelby GT 500s had Mustang GT-level interior trim; air conditioning and power steering were new factory options. An 8000-rpm tach, 140-mph speedometer, and padded roll bar, however, remained Shelby standards.
Always looking to improve performance, Shelby outfitted the GT 500s with fiberglass body pieces, including an elongated nose, a hood with functional scoops, and four body side intakes.
The fiberglass tail had a molded spoiler and sequential turn-signal lamps borrowed from the Mercury Cougar. High-beam headlights were mounted in the center of the grille (some were moved to the sides to meet state laws). Twin “Le Mans” stripes were dealer -applied options for any 1967 Shelby GT 500.
If Shelby Mustangs were now less race car and more grand touring machine, that was fine with buyers, who took an immediate liking to Shelby’s latest.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

Before we inform you about this specific example we have to tell you something about the restoration company.
Classic & Race Car Service has fully restored this car even as 2 other cars which we have sold.
Classic & Race Car Service is a company with a unique passion for classic cars but even more for attention to detail.

Therefore the result of their restoration is absolutely unique.

About the car:

This Shelby Mustang GT has been restored as close as possible to it’s original specification. The car has been fully restored. Every piece has been taken apart. Every screw has been taken out and the result is absolutely amazing.

The car is finished in its factory-original color of Dark Moss Green.

The comprehensive restoration started with a numbers-matching, solid original car and was completed over a two-year period to exacting standards of quality and authenticity. This Shelby was completed in January 2020.

The car was delivered at the 28th of June 1967 to Grillo Ford in Lynn Massachusetts. This gentlemen sold the car in 1969 to a Tom Gravan from Lexington, Massachusetts.
Mr. Gravan sold the car after 45 years to a dealer and 1 year later it was bought by the owner of Classic & Race Car Service in Holland.

Now the restoration has been finished the car is ready to be enjoyed for a 2nd. life.

This example is one of 2048 Shelby GT500 built in 1967.

It was built on the 28th of June in Los Angeles. Many collectors feel the 1967 Shelbys were special because 1967 was the last year the cars were built at the original Shelby American facility in Venice, California.

Ford moved the production to Ionia, Michigan on 18th of August 1967.

It retains almost all of the original Shelby specific components, such as the matching numbers 428 CID Police Interceptor engine with the correct date coded 600 CFM Holley Carburators, and the aluminiim intake manifold. It also retains its orginal Spec Case Detroit Locker Differential.

Early on in its life (believed to be late 1960’s) the original C-6 automatic transmission was changed for a period correct 4-speed manual “Top-Loader” gearbox.

The original 10 spoke Aluminium Deluxe wheels were upgraded to Kelsey Hayes Magstar wheels currently with the car.

All of the original Shelby equipment has been retained. It is equipped with a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires on reproduction aluminiun 10 spoke wheels for driving.

The original and restored set of Kelsey Hayes Magstar wheels are fitted with correct Goodyear Speedway E70X15 tires for show purpose, as these tires are not type approved in Europe.

Copies of the production details from a Ford database and US registration are available on file with the car.

When new, the car has been ordered with the following options:

- Deluxe wheels (alluminum 10-Spoke) - Shoulder harness
- Courtesy light group
- Sport deck rear seat
- Power disc brakes
- Power steering
- Interior decor group
- Tachometer and trip odometer

CONDITION EXTERIOR

If a car has to be restored in detail one must not worry about the expenses. The restoration of this car must have cost a fortune. If one sees the car it is immediately clear that the restoration has cost a fortune because the appearance is absolutely amazing.

The color on the car is wonderful and the paintwork is almost better then excellent.

The chrome parts are probably nicer then new and also all the badges and special Shelby parts are in a superb condition.

The original rear window with the lining which follows the roof is still in the car (correct numbers are in the window).

The front window has been replaced because it was damaged over the years.

Condition wise we can be very short. The car is absolutely superb and amazing in every detail.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior design of the Mustang is a beautiful place to spend time in with art deco influences and materials.

This particular example is in as new condition and all original parts have been restored.

During the restoration the seats have been covered in leather which is the only upgrade in the interior.

All the original parts such as the original belts, the Shelby speed and tachometer and the roll bar are off-course still in the car.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

On test drive the engine starts up with a growl and settles into a smooth idle. There is no hesitation as the car pulls through the gears, and the ever-increasing noise is a delight.

Since this pristine Shelby has never been displayed, it presents a rare and exciting opportunity for concours exhibition, as well as tours and events, and would make a beautiful addition to any collection.
