Offered here is a recently restored example of the highly sought after Ford RS1600 finished in its original colours of Ermine White with a Black cloth interior. Our vendor and his business partner have, over the last four years, completed a total ‘ground-up detailed restoration finished with amazing attention to detail.
Items such as the engine were sent to highly-regarded specialists for a total rebuild. Joe Stevens of Heart Power was entrusted with the rebuild of the BDA and noted that it was refreshing to work on a unit that had never been modified and remained as standard. The BDA was stripped and reassembled then tested on the bench showing a promising 100bhp at 5000rpm. Once run-in, the engine builder believes this motor should produce a healthy 125bhp peak performance.
Accompanied by a history file including a wealth of invoices for the restoration which our vendor informs us amounted to around £65,000 in total, a current V5c with the vehicle correctly titled as an RS1600 and other related paperwork.
Currently, this nicely restored RS has zero road hours on the engine so will require a suitable running in period before spirited driving. Increasingly sought after and highly collectable, the first generation of the RS will remain the ‘Holy Grail’ to most classic car enthusiasts and collectors alike. Examples as good as this rarely come to market so this represents a great opportunity to take ownership of a ‘box-fresh’ RS1600.
