Beschreibung
1966 Ford Mustang 'K Code' GT Convertible
Registration no. LHH 277D
Chassis no. 6F08K323015
Engine no. 005AE-6015E
The car offered here is far from your average Mustang; rather, it is an example of the much sought-after high-performance 'K Code' model, a great rarity but especially in convertible form. Conceived with performance as the priority, 'K Code' Mustangs lacked air conditioning and power steering, and prior to 1966 were only available with a four-speed manual transmission. The name refers to the 'K' in the engine number, signifying that the 289ci (4,727cc) V8 had been extensively upgraded to produce around 271bhp. Other notable 'K Code' drive-line features included a high-performance clutch, drive shaft, differential, and suspension.
This Mustang comes with a copy of Auto Network Appraisal's illustrated and certified report that was compiled before the vendor bought it in the USA in 2016. Once shipped to the UK, the car was thoroughly inspected by Roy Holmes from the Mustang Workshop who, as a former concours judge in the USA, verified that it was indeed an authentic 'K Code' Road Registered Mustang and also an original GT specification car. It has been licensed in the UK since 2016 and been maintained by The Mustang Workshop.
Formerly, the Mustang was part of an American collector's private collection and in 2004 had been given a substantial rotisserie restoration but, critically, all the original parts were kept. A photographic record of that restoration is on file.
Following the inspection in the UK, a package of further upgrades was undertaken by The Mustang Workshop, which would enhance the car's usability, performance and reliability in the UK. All these improvements were completed in 2016 at a cost of over £9,500. The car has been stored in the owner's purpose-built garage and does not get driven in the wet. It has covered fewer than 2,000 miles since its restoration.
Arguably, this is one of the rarest Mustangs currently in the UK or even Europe. There is a special 'K Code' register of all known cars that exist today, and this car is on that register. Less than 1% of all Mustangs made in period were 'K Code' models and an even smaller percentage were Convertibles with the GT package of enhancements. Suffice to say this is one very rare and desirable collectors Mustang.
