Beschreibung

  • A fine example of an early commercial trucking pioneer
  • In single ownership for the past 40 years
  • Stake truck configuration with wooden bed
  • Wears a nicely preserved and wonderfully patinaed older restoration

One of the early powerhouses in the burgeoning commercial trucking industry, the Ford Motor Company's Model AA truck was based on its Model A automobile platform but with a longer wheelbase, a stronger frame, and generally sturdier chassis components. The Model AA was available with two different wheelbases and rear axle configurations, with several body styles to permit its use as a panel truck, an express delivery truck, a garbage truck, a bus, or an ambulance and, as with the example offered here, a highly useful and capable stake truck.

Model AA Fords utilized the same 40-horsepower, 201-cubic-inch four-cylinder engine that the Model A Ford used. Unlike the Model A, however, the Model AA had a heavy-duty rear suspension designed to carry heavy loads and lower gear ratios in the transmission and rear differential, enabling them to be rated for up to 1.5 tons of cargo capacity. Even today, nearly 100 years since these vehicles were produced, they remain highly capable and highly popular with enthusiasts the world over.

The stunning 1929 Model AA stake-bed truck presented here is offered from more than four decades of single ownership. It wears an older restoration in a highly attractive paint scheme of blue over black fenders with a black belt line and tan six-slot Budd steel wheels. The wooden truck stakes are naturally finished and make a beautiful contrast against the black metal and wood truck bed and blue body. The truck’s interior, though somewhat spartan—befitting of a truck destined for hard work—is nicely finished in black vinyl and features a bulb horn and the standard complement of gauges.

Highly attractive inside and out, and exhibiting a pleasing patina all around, this Model AA has great potential for AACA, Model A Ford Club of America, Ford Model AA Truck Club, or Antique Truck Club of America events. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/hf22.
