DESCRIPTION
Drawing inspiration from the hallowed names of the past, Ford recreated a legend in 2007 with the limited-edition FPV GT Cobra. Unveiled at the Sydney Motor Show in both sedan and ute variants, the new GT celebrated the Cobra name last used on the famous white and blue XC hardtops that scored a memorable victory at Bathurst in 1977. Commemorating the win, Ford revealed its latest high performance Falcon during a parade lap of Mount Panorama before the 2007 Bathurst 1000, exactly 30 years since Colin Bond and Allan Moffat’s triumphant 1-2 finish. As with the original XC Cobra, 400 individually numbered editions of the new FPV GT Cobra sedan were made available (plus a further 100 utes) and all were snapped up by enthusiasts, many of whom already owned one of the classic ‘70s models. Ford equipped the new Cobra with a 302 kW 5.4-litre V8 boasting an upgraded engine management system, increased compression ratio, re-profiled camshafts, valves and a new exhaust. A choice of manual or auto gearboxes, both with six speeds and limited-slip diff, were offered along with upgraded R-spec suspension and unique 19-inch alloy wheels. In the best Cobra tradition, all cars were finished in white with twin blue racing stripes along with snake badges on the boot, sides and seats, the latter upholstered in charcoal leather. Priced at $72,000 on the road in 2007, “The new FPV GT Cobra combines the original XC Cobra’s bold styling with the latest in FPV engineering and total performance.” Now a decade old, the FPV Cobra has firmly cemented its place as a future classic and prices have begun to show solid appreciation in recent years.
HISTORY
- Limited Edition FPV GT Cobra Number 236/400
- One owner car with exceptionally low mileage
- Supplied with original books and manuals
A fantastic example of FPV’s GT Cobra, this car ticks just about every box; with one fastidious owner from new, ultra-low mileage and exceptional documentation, this is definitely one to put away. Based in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW, the owner sourced Cobra number 236 (one of 124 equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission) from Sterling Ford in Bundoora, Victoria. Pre-delivery was done at Kloster Ford of Newcastle and the owner collected his new toy on November 28, 2007, as confirmed by the original purchase receipt and warranty. Over the past eleven years the FPV has been carefully garaged, regularly serviced and driven sparingly, covering just over 11,000 kilometres on the clock at the time of cataloguing. Serviced annually by Ray Prescott Automotive, the book is stamped up to date and backed by a strong receipt file. In exceptional condition throughout, the Falcon remains essentially stock apart from an engine tune and extractors, unleashing additional power accompanied by a glorious exhaust note. Currently registered in NSW until December 2018, the FPV comes with extensive documentation including full books, a Ford authentication letter, FPV folder, spare key and key fob, plus wheel locking nut.
Note: Shannons advise that all potential buyers research all vehicles before purchase to authenticate originality.
