Beschreibung
"The Mk. III Capri was launched in 1978 and with a facelift which included quad headlights and wrap around bumpers that offered a more modern shape and improved dynamics which naturally improved the performance and economy. The Mk. II and Mk. III 3.0 litre X-pack special performance options pack was offered between 1977 and 1980. They used a special glass fibre widebody kit made by Fibresports, larger ventilated front disc brakes (retaining the standard drums at the rear), Bilstein gas-filled rear dampers and front struts, an ‘anti-dive kit’, a Salisbury limited slip differential and a choice of two performance upgrades for Essex V6 3.0 litre engines. The first upgrade, called the Group 1 pack, boost the power up to 170hp. This engine included larger valves, ported cylinder heads and a Weber 40 DFI5 carburettor and other optional performance upgrades. The second option, referred to as X-Pack, offered 185hp and 195 lb/ft of torque, thanks to three Weber 42 DCNF two-barrel carburettors fed by an electric fuel pump, the same ported cylinder heads and larger inlet and exhaust valves as the GP1. It used special head gaskets even though the standard compression ratio of 9.0:1 and standard camshaft were retained. The X-Pack was also equipped with a wing as standard and it featured unique 7.5 x 13” wheels, for which a special body kit was made. The X-Pack included a free-flowing performance exhaust system with distinctive flattened rear ends. The X-Pack Capri could reach 60mph from standing in 7.4 seconds, a full second faster than the standard 3.0 litre Capri and had a top speed of 130mph. These upgrades could only be bought through and fitted by one of the 80 Ford RS Motorsport dealerships in the UK, or a completely new car could be ordered factory equipped through a Ford Motorsport dealer. It is estimated that little over 100 conversions were made.
This lovely 1979 Ford Capri Mk. III 3.0 S has the second upgrade pack, the X-Pack, which includes the uprated engine bored out to 3.1 litres, with triple Weber 42 DCNF carburettors putting the power through a four-speed manual gearbox to a Salisbury limited slip differential. Finished in silver with the original checked patterned Recaro seats with tennis racket head rests and RS steering wheel. It has the Pringal RS wheels, full body kit with RS rear spoiler. This lovely Capri Mk. III is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in September 2024 and a file containing some history and paperwork. A perfect opportunity to purchase the ultimate Ford Capri, an iconic British classic which is expected to appreciate in value over time.
