One of only three Fiat 509 S bodied by Zagato, the chassis 32022673 was bought by Rigoletto Belli, a Fiat dealer in Terni and a gentleman driver who was quite successful in races at the time. The car was given the number TR1000, which it has kept over the years to this day.
He made a successful debut with his Fiat in the Terni Passo somma, winning first place and finishing in the June 1926 issue of Auto Italiana. Later, in 1927 Rigoletto Belli raced his 509 S in the Coppa della Perugina (fifth), the Terni Passo Somma (first), the Vermicino Rocca di Papa and the Tolentino Colle Paterno.
Later, according to the chronological extract, he sold the Fiat in 1932 to Lamberto Miconi, who only kept the car for a few months before selling it on to another enthusiast. The car passed from hand to hand until it was sold in 1957 to Valerio Moretti, a well-known name in classic car circles. He restored the car and kept it until 1989, a good 32 years. It then entered a private collection in France in the early 2000s, but was never registered there.
Used for short journeys and occasionally, this 509 S Zagato has kept its bodywork intact and in an excellent state of restoration. The car on offer is in good working order and has all its documentation, including letters between Valerio Moretti and Angelo Tito Anselmi, invoices and photos taken of the find. A car that is certainly suitable for amateurs and all those collectors with fine automotive knowledge. This Fiat Zagato is an excellent entry for numerous events such as concours d'elegance and historical re-enactments.
