Beschreibung

Guide price: £100000 - £120000.

1 of only 438 RHD cars ever built for the UK market and just 13,867 miles

Current owner since 1994. Superb condition with reassuringly good service history

In the classic combination of Rosso Corsa paintwork with Crema leather

Sparingly used but maintained and stored extremely well. Still has that new Ferrari smell!

Recent full engine service costing £18,000 only a few hundred miles ago

When Ferrari introduced the Testarossa in Paris in 1984, it was regarded as possibly the best car they had ever built but, whilst the design was spectacular, it was not considered to be as sensually beautiful as numerous GT Ferraris of the past. As a complete departure, Pininfarina had designed a modern, aerodynamic and efficient body shape, immediately recognisable by its very distinctive side 'strakes' unlike anything else seen in the post-war period. The name 'Testarossa', literally Redhead, became synonymous with Ferrari sports racing cars in the ‘50s and ‘60s and was resurrected at the launch of this new model at the Porte de Versailles in 1984.

The Testarossa was the ‘poster car’ of the 1980’s, being perhaps the ultimate automotive status symbol to emerge from the ‘greed is good’ decade. The Testarossa’s imposing size and in-your-face attitude tend to hide the fact that here we have a remarkably user-friendly supercar; mighty performance delivered in a smooth manner by a sweet and free-revving 4.9-litre flat-12 producing 390bhp, endowing the car with a respectable 0-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 196mph. The Testarossa really does offer a rare package of serious performance, practicality, and reasonable comfort and its confidence-inspiring handling at high speed becomes almost addictive. It even has windows you can actually see out off!

Although the design may have seemed to be 'of the moment', the Testarossa proved itself to be a well-built and enduring car, with the passing of time proving Pininfarina's design to be durable, timeless and much echoed in design language for numerous products over the years.

The Testarossa was produced between 1984 and 1992, with some 7,177 examples in total, and was Ferrari’s most successful model ever - perhaps one of the reasons why it remains comparatively good value for money - but for how long? Remember the UK received just 438 RHD examples….

The car presented here is just that, a RHD/UK market 1987 Ferrari Testarossa. This very special example has covered just 13,867 miles from new, and its overall condition is wholly commensurate with such low mileage and careful ownership. The car was delivered new on the 24th April 1987 through Maranello Sales Ltd. (Ferrari) of Egham in Surrey and has since been used sparingly over the years with only a few owners, before our vendor purchased the car form Gray Paul Ferrari of Loughborough in 1994 – he (or at least his business on paper) have owned and cherished it ever since. You don’t own a car for this long if it’s not an exceptionally good one!

The car is accompanied by an impressively regular service history (including many cam-belt changes), a complete Ferrari leather book-pack - including an original service booklet, owner’s manual, radio manual and an intriguing period advice/introductory sheet from the supplying-dealership (presumably) about the new Testarossa model(!), plus a host of invoices and numerous old MoT Certificates. Our vendor’s continued diligence extended to entrusting Ferrari specialists ‘Shiltech’ of Loughborough to carry out a very recent comprehensive engine and gearbox-out service, costing approximately £18,000, thus ensuring that this particular Testarossa is in first-rate health, driving and performing as well as you’d expect.

This truly exceptional example of one of the finest supercars from the 1980s is a must for any collector of landmark Ferraris or indeed, for any collector of significant 20th-century cars – surely, not to be missed.
