As the only constructor to have participated in every Formula 1 World Championship season since its inception in 1950, Ferrari’s position in the sport is unique. Success, initially, came relatively easily; the Scuderia’s drivers won six of the first 15 World Drivers’ titles. Yet the 1980s and 1990s proved lean years, with Jody Scheckter’s 1979 Championship success still the most recent as the millennium loomed. However, the arrival of Michael Schumacher heralded significant change at Maranello. The manufacturer’s first Constructors’ title for 16 years was secured in 1999, followed by its first Drivers’ crown in 21 in 2000. Indeed, the latter marked the start of an unprecedented sequence of five consecutive titles stretching until 2005.

The successes of the early Schumacher era—allied to a desire to posthumously honour the team’s charismatic late founder—prompted the design of a new cutting-edge supercar, fittingly dubbed Enzo. Brimming with Formula 1 technology, the new car featured a carbon fibre monocoque and an exquisite 48-valve, 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V-12 engine producing some 651 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque. Ceramic brakes, paddle-shift gear actuation, cockpit-adjustable suspension, and active aerodynamics further underlined its credentials as the most technologically advanced Ferrari ever made. Predictably, the car’s performance figures were every bit as impressive, with 0 to 100 km/h achieved in 3.65 seconds en route to a top speed in excess of 350 km/h.

As with the majority of the 400 Enzos produced, chassis 137339 was originally configured in Rosso Corsa with a Nero interior, the latter incorporating the popular factory seat combination of hide with cloth inserts. Further personalised with a Rosso instrument cluster and black brake callipers, it was completed by the factory on 30 April 2004 and delivered via South Tyrolian Ferrari Concessionaires Ineco Auto S.p.A to Bologna-based Flying Car S.r.l in May 2004, the car’s delivery date determining it a relatively late-production example.

Having remained with its original Bolognese owner for some five years—in whose custody it attended the inaugural Enzo gathering at Mugello in October 2005, and covered some 15,000 kilometres—the car was noted as having been offered for sale by the Netherlands-based Kroymans BV, and later purchased by a UK-based collector. In their ownership, the car was serviced at long-established marque specialist Graypaul Ferrari in 2010, with Ferrari Classiche certification being awarded that same year. Although briefly sold to France via auction in 2014, chassis 137339 returned to the UK in May 2015. It was at this juncture that it received a further comprehensive service—including a new clutch—at Ferrari agent Meridien Modena of Lyndhurst, Hampshire. From then until 2021 the Enzo stayed with the same owner, during which time it received servicing by Stewart Roden Motors, the Edinburgh-based sister company of former Ferrari Le Mans and FIA GT Championship team, Scuderia Ecosse. However, in October 2020, the Enzo returned to Meridien Modena for its most recent service. Remarkably, at the time of cataloguing, the car’s odometer read just over 19,600 kilometres.

Lavishly specified, exquisitely executed, and with its conception and design rooted in Ferrari’s hugely successful Formula 1 programme of the early 2000s, the Enzo remains one of the most awe-inspiring and emotive Ferraris ever made. There can be few more compelling cases for “Big Five” Ferrari ownership than this.
