Ferrari does not use their "Gran Turismo Omologato" (GTO) moniker lightly. While other carmakers may use their historical name plates very liberally, Ferrari is much more reserved and exacting. In the past 75 years of glorious Ferrari history, just two other models have carried the GTO badge and both are, in a word, legendary. The Ferrari 250 GTO produced between 1962 and 1964 needs no introduction as the iconic Ferrari and successful GT-class racer. Created as a homologation platform for the Ferrari 308 GTB, the 1984 288 GTO was one of the stand-out, unexpected supercars of the 1980s. The hand-wringing began when rumors trickled out that Ferrari would reapply "GTO" to a modern Ferrari with the cynics naturally skeptical. They did not have to worry.

Ferrari's third and most recent GTO, the 599 GTO was named in line with its famous progenitors. The 599 naturally follows from its 5,999 cc displacement. The second, and most important piece of its name – GTO – like its forebears, is rooted in racetrack development with many of its cutting-edge solutions the product of Maranello's experience in the development of the 599XX, the prototype experimental car of which, as its moniker suggests, the 599 GTO is the road-homologated version. While the 599XX was blisteringly fast, setting a Nürburgring lap record, it was track-only and not road legal and with that, the stage was set for the introduction of a road legal version. When announced in April of 2010, the new 599 GTO had all of the attributes that would make any Tifosi's heart beat faster. A front engine 6.0-liter V12 pumping out 661 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque mated to a F1 six-speed paddle shift transmission capable of 60 millisecond shift times with all available power flowing to the rear wheels. It wasn't just about power; Ferrari took great pains to show off its track qualifications in their press release stating, "The 599 GTO benefits directly from the technological transfer from racing (599XX) and set a record lap time at Fiorano in 1 min 24 sec." That lap time, for those keeping track, is .9 sec faster than a Ferrari Enzo. The chassis set-up was tuned for a level of responsiveness that is "close to the limit," completely removing understeer. With qualifications like these, any doubts about the GTO name were eliminated and all were sold quickly.

With just 599 examples of the 599 GTO produced worldwide, and only 125 coming to North America, this fine example finished in Rosso Corsa with a Nero "Racing Livery" center stripe over Extra Campionario Crema leather interior and Daytona style seats, must surely be one of the most low-mileage, desirable examples available today. Additional options include carbon fiber door sill covers, engine cover, and headlight buckets, red brake calipers, rear parking sensors, white rev counter, leather headliner and rear shelf, Crema steering wheel, and BOSE HIFI system. Ordered through Ferrari of Beverly Hills this example features under 270 miles as verified on an accompanying Carfax report and is in exceptional condition commensurate with its mileage. With only two owners, and in keeping with its mileage, this Classiche certified 599 GTO is accompanied by its 599 GTO toolkit, four-piece luggage set, and a car cover.

Addendum:

On 26 July 2022 this 599 GTO visited Ferrari of Beverly Hills for a pre-auction multi-point inspection, an oil and filter service, brake fluid flush and multi-point inspection.
