The evolutionary Ferrari 488 was conceived as a replacement for the triumphant 458 preceding it. While it built on years of steady development, the 488 was a technological leap forward for Ferrari. Powered by the first production turbocharged engine since the F40, its new 3.9-liter V-8 produced 661 hp, shifting through a seven-speed, automated manual dual-clutch transaxle, and propelled the 488 from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds. Improved carbon ceramic brakes shortened stopping distances over its predecessor by 9%. Its body design, front splitters, rear spoiler, underbody vortex generators, and rear diffuser worked in concert to increase downforce by 50% over the 458 while simultaneously reducing overall drag.
