Introduced at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Ferrari 458 Speciale is indeed special. Though quite similar in appearance to the 458 Italia, the mid-engine supercar benefits from numerous advancements that elevate its performance to another level. Developed with an uncompromising focus, the Speciale combined advanced aerodynamics, sophisticated electronic systems, and extensive weight-saving measures with the extraordinary character of Ferrari’s 4.5-litre V-8.

Ferrari’s engineers extensively reworked the F136 engine, incorporating competition-derived components and a remarkable 14:1 compression ratio. The result was 597 brake horsepower, a 9,000 rpm redline and, at launch, the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 ever produced by Ferrari. Its sensationally immediate throttle response and soaring soundtrack were matched by a breadth of chassis technology: an F1 dual-clutch transmission, adaptive magnetorheological dampers, E-Diff rear differential, and the pioneering Side Slip Control system. Active aerodynamic flaps at the front and rear continually balanced downforce and drag, helping the Speciale achieve exceptional stability and real-world usability.

This exceptional UK-delivered example is made all the more significant by its remarkable relationship with an identically specified 458 Speciale Aperta. Commissioned together as an extraordinary matching pair through Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme, the two cars share their distinctive livery and extensive bespoke appointments; more remarkably still, they carry virtually unprecedented sequential chassis numbers. The Speciale therefore offers not merely an unusually specified example of Ferrari’s celebrated track-focused V-8, but one half of a uniquely conceived factory-commissioned duo. The 458 Speciale Aperta is also offered at RM Sotheby’s London sale as Lot 132.

Its exterior is finished in the rare and arresting Alluminio Grezzo Opaco, a satin silver treatment to exposed aluminium that is sealed by clear lacquer. A Blu Nart racing stripe provides a vivid visual connection to Ferrari competition tradition, while black brake callipers, Scuderia wing shields and titanium sports exhaust pipes complete the purposeful presentation. Extensive exposed carbon-fibre detailing encompasses the rear diffuser, front air vents, engine covers, front flaps, and wheel-cup details while a suspension-lift system further enhances practicality.

The Tailor Made treatment continues throughout the cockpit, which is extensively appointed in Alcantara across the headliner, upper dashboard, wheel arches, and central tunnel. Medium-sized carbon-fibre racing seats are upholstered in high-tech Mycro Prestige fabric and finished with contrasting white stitching, while white Cavallino Rampante embroidery is embossed into the headrests. Further carefully selected equipment includes a coloured steering wheel, roll bar, integrated radio-navigation and Bluetooth system, and parking camera. Together, these details create a cabin of unusually deliberate character—every element selected to complement the exterior’s competition-inspired theme.

Retained by only two owners from new, this Speciale had covered just 1,980 miles at the time of cataloguing. It is accompanied by a Ferrari-issued scale model, Tailor Made order documentation, MoT certificates, and a file of service and maintenance invoices from Stratstone Ferrari of Colchester, Essex offering insight into to the car’s careful stewardship.

More than simply a low-mileage 458 Speciale, this is a uniquely commissioned Ferrari—one half of an extraordinary sequentially numbered pair, conceived together and finished to an exceptionally personal brief. The buyer of this lot will surely wish to take the pair, with the 458 Speciale Aperta also up for auction as Lot 132. With its evocative exposed-aluminium aesthetic, competition-inspired detailing and unmistakable naturally aspirated V-8 soundtrack, it is a captivating expression of one of Ferrari’s great modern supercars, preserved in remarkable condition and ready to be appreciated for generations to come.
