The Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta is a visceral celebration of open-air performance and engineering brilliance: an emphatic final chapter in Ferrari’s naturally aspirated, mid-engined V-8 era. Unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and limited to 499 examples worldwide, the Speciale Aperta represented the ultimate evolution of the 458 platform, uniting the razor-sharp dynamics of the 458 Speciale Berlinetta with the unfiltered drama and freedom of a retractable hardtop convertible.

Beneath its muscular, aerodynamically honed bodywork lies one of Maranello’s great modern engines: a 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V-8, gloriously free-revving and capable of producing 597 brake horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque. A 35-brake horsepower increase over the standard 458 Italia, this extraordinary output was achieved through a remarkable 14:1 compression ratio, revised pistons, reshaped combustion chambers, and a carbon fibre intake system. Paired with Ferrari’s lightning-fast seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission, the Speciale Aperta accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds and on to a top speed of around 200 mph, all accompanied by one of the defining exhaust notes of the modern Ferrari era.

Ferrari left nothing to chance in ensuring that the Speciale Aperta’s dynamic ability matched its sonic drama. Formula 1- and LaFerrari-derived technology includes Side Slip Control, which continuously coordinates power delivery, the E-Diff rear differential and F1-Trac traction-control system to enhance stability and driver confidence at the limit. Recalibrated adaptive dampers, carbon-ceramic brakes, and active aerodynamic flaps work in concert to deliver exceptional cornering precision and responsiveness without sacrificing usability on the road.

The rigid aluminium chassis was reinforced to preserve impressive torsional stiffness despite the absence of a fixed roof. Crafted entirely from aluminium, its retractable hardtop folds away in just 14 seconds and adds only 50 kilograms over the Speciale Berlinetta. Yet the Speciale Aperta remains more than 90 kilograms lighter than a standard 458 Spider—a testament to the obsessive weight-saving measures that defined the model. Reworked aerodynamics, including active front and rear flaps and a redesigned rear diffuser, reduced drag while preserving the downforce and high-speed composure expected of Ferrari’s most focused open V-8.

This United Kingdom-delivered example is particularly notable as one half of an extraordinary factory-commissioned pairing. It was ordered alongside an identically specified 458 Speciale Berlinetta through Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme, with both cars conceived in matching liveries and closely corresponding bespoke appointments. More remarkably, the pair carry almost unheard-of sequential chassis numbers—an exceptional detail that elevates this Aperta beyond even the rarefied standard of Ferrari’s limited-production open V-8 special series. The twinned car is offered at RM Sotheby’s London auction as Lot 133.

Its highly distinctive specification is centred on the rare Alluminio Grezzo Opaco finish, a satin silver treatment coated to exposed aluminium and finished with clear lacquer. A Blu Nart racing livery provides a striking competition-inspired contrast, joined by black brake callipers, titanium sports exhaust pipes, and the highly desirable Scuderia Ferrari fender shields. Exposed carbon fibre detailing appears throughout the exterior, including the rear diffuser, front air vents, engine covers, front flaps, and wheel cups. The car is also equipped with suspension lift, discreetly increasing everyday usability while preserving the uncompromising visual theatre of the Speciale Aperta.

The cabin carries the same comprehensive Tailor Made theme with Alcantara used extensively across the headliner, upper and lower dashboard, wheel arches, and central tunnel to create an unmistakably purposeful environment. Medium-sized carbon fibre racing seats are upholstered in high-tech 3D fabric, finished with contrasting white stitching and white Cavallino Rampante embroidery embossed into the headrests. Additional Tailor Made and optional equipment includes a coloured steering wheel, integrated radio navigation and Bluetooth system, and parking sensors with camera.

Sold new in the United Kingdom and carefully retained from new, this exceptional Speciale Aperta had covered only 1,751 miles at the time of cataloguing. It is offered with its accompanying Ferrari-issued scale model, Tailor Made ordering correspondence and Certificate of Authenticity, MoT certificates, together with service and maintenance invoices from Stratstone Ferrari of Colchester, Essex.

With its exceptionally low mileage, remarkable Tailor Made specification, and exceptional connection to its sequentially numbered 458 Speciale sibling, this Aperta represents an opportunity of real distinction. Offered alongside its 458 Speciale sister car (Lot 133), the buyer of this lot will surely want to take home both Ferraris to continue their significant pairing.
