Continuing Ferrari's tradition of 2+2 coupés equipped with a frontmounted V12 (the 330 GT, 365 GT, 400 and 412), work on the 456 project began in 1989 and the model went on sale in 1992. Its designer Pininfarina favoured a discreet, refined look rather than an excessively sporting appearance, which was merely hinted at by its four tailpipes. The end result was remarkable, with much care paid to aerodynamics. The sides of the car were scooped out to improve the engine cooling. Thanks to its extremely pure, flowing lines, in some people's eyes the 456 GT symbolised the most beautiful Ferrari ever made, and it took its place among the legends of the marque. 3300 units of the 456 were built until 2003, when it made way for the 612 Scaglietti.
The 456 GT which we are offering for sale is fitted with the excellent sixspeed manual gearbox. It is finished in an attractive shade of grey, matched to a well-preserved camel brown leather interior. The dashboard is also in excellent condition and has not suffered too much from the sun.
With 56,000km (34,800 miles) showing on the odometer, it comes with its service booklets, a fitted cover, its tool kit and a suitcase. Last year, a full service was carried out by a marque specialist who changed the timing chains and carried out a thorough check of the car's mechanical components.
