Beschreibung

Introduced in 1964, the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 continued the four-seat grand touring coupe blueprint set by its predecessor, the 330 America. The car featured a magnificent four-liter V-12 and delivered power to the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox with overdrive. With its slim roof pillars, airy greenhouse, and long hood, the elegant design of the 330 GT 2+2 was undoubtedly a credit to Pininfarina, though the initial four-headlight arrangement was not universally beloved.

For 1965, the 330 GT 2+2 Series II debuted and brought with it a host of notable improvements. Visually, it returned to Ferrari’s classic two-headlight arrangement along with revised turn signals, fuel filler relocation, three-piece bumpers with rubber-faced guards, and standard cast alloy wheels – though Borrani wire wheels were available on request. Mechanically, the Series II power train benefited from a modernized five-speed gearbox and a variety of minor improvements. Handsome, comfortable, and relatively spacious inside, the car was a grand tourer par excellence, capable of exceeding 140 mph.

According to the 330 GT Registry, chassis 08325 was one of just 424 left-hand-drive Series II models built, originally finished in the handsome color scheme of blue with gray leather upholstery. Delivered new to Mr. Simons in San Francisco, the Ferrari eventually relocated to Southern California and spent more than a decade in the care of Thomas Mirich Jr. In 2003, the car was chosen by Ferrari North America to take part in the debut of the 612 Scaglietti – the 330 GT 2+2’s modern-day counterpart. Under its current ownership, 08325 has been treated to a recent, photo-documented, multiyear comprehensive restoration from marque experts with receipts totaling in excess of $300,000. No detail was overlooked in its cosmetic and mechanical restoration, as evidenced by extensive documentation.

Longtime Ferrari expert and retired FCA master judge Thomas Shaughnessy had occasion to inspect 08325 following its restoration in June 2021, and commented in a signed statement on file, “This 330 GT 2+2 is in the top 5% condition-wise of this model in the world. I have only viewed one or two similar cars restored to this level in the United States, over the last 30 years.”

An effortless and impressive touring car, this 330 GT 2+2 Series II would make an ideal choice for both concours and long-distance driving tours such as the Copperstate 1000. A benchmark example with a recent no-expense-spared restoration, 08325 perfectly embodies the sophistication and enduring virtues of the classic V-12 Ferrari GT experience and, given its relatively approachable price of entry, deserves serious consideration.
