Beschreibung

According to research by the late Ferrari expert Gerald Roush, this beautifully restored 308 GTB is one of the first four examples imported to the US by Chinetti-Garthwaite imports. Because it bears the earliest chassis number of the four, this car is generally regarded to be the first of the 100 fiberglass examples built for America, and numerous components are inscribed with the numeral “1.” The early fiberglass 308s are prized today for their rarity and lightweight construction, while later cars – which comprised the vast majority of 308 production – featured steel panels.

Acquired by the consignor in 1988, this significant Ferrari was treated to a full restoration featuring motor and transmission work by the famed Bob Wallace, in Phoenix, Arizona. Cosmetic measures included a bare-fiberglass repaint in the original color of Rosso Chiaro, and a new tan leather interior with black carpeting. Resulting in showroom-level quality, the photo-documented restoration earned the 308 a victory in its class at the 1993 Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance, and the car has been dutifully detailed and maintained since.

As the first fiberglass 308 GTB built for the US, this rare and expertly restored berlinetta will be warmly welcomed at FCA concours and Italian car shows. It is a highly important example of the legendary model that returned Ferrari to the forefront of sports car manufacture.
