Beschreibung

In 1959, Ferrari would unveil their newest open car at the Paris Salon Auto Show. A model directed towards the American market which was lusting for a new, elegant cabriolet for the open road. The Ferrari 250 GT Series II Pininfarina Cabriolet was part of Enzo’s continued effort to feed his racing addiction, by “Mass-Producing” cars, amassing 200, Series II Cabriolets. A direct derivative of the Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe, Ferrari would repurpose the 508F chassis, along with a majority of the body lines to produce a luxurious Grand Touring cabriolet. The outside plug, three-liter, 128F engine from the latest rendition of the coupes would find itself propelling the new Series II Cabriolets. With a Connolly leather interior, fitted hard top, Dunlop disc-brakes and an electronic overdrive, Ferrari had built the ultimate Grand Tourer.
This particular Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Cabriolet, 3091 GT, has been a member of the Paul Russell and Company family for nearly 20 years. We are proud to offer this numbers matching car on behalf of our client.
3091 GT was delivered as a rolling chassis on October 12th, 1961 to Grugliasco, where the new Pininfarina plant had been built just a few years earlier. On December 20th, 1961, 3091 GT would roll out of Pininfarina and shortly thereafter would be sent abroad to Luigi Chinetti in New York. Luigi sold the car to a Mr. Chalik in its original color of “Oro Longchamp” with a “Naturale” leather interior. Little is known about Mr. Chalik’s ownership of 3091 GT, as few supporting documents are left. In 1992, the car received a cosmetic restoration by Chris DeBruin to a classic “Rossa Corsa” exterior with a tan leather interior. The car changed hands again in the early 2000’s until its current owner purchased the car in 2004 and it began its relationship with Paul Russell and Company.
In late 2016, 3091GT received an extensive cosmetic restoration by Danny Bells LLC of Great Barrington, MA. This restoration would become a two-and-a-half-year endeavor to resurrect this iconic Ferrari 250 GT Series II Pininfarina Cabriolet. During this time, evidence of the original paint was found in hidden areas, allowing for a perfect color match to be made. The body was found to be rust and damage free, the same way it would’ve left Carrozzeria Pininfarina in 1961. All trim, aluminum and stainless components were sent out to be polished or re-chromed to concours levels. Brand new gaskets and rubber seals were installed in all the windows and door sills. By January of 2019, 3091 GT received a brand-new interior in “Naturale” leather as well as a new under bonnet, boot area and convertible top to complete the concours package.
In February of 2020, 3091GT would be delivered to Paul Russell and Company for an extensive, engine-out, mechanical refurbishment. For the next four months, the car would undergo a complete overdrive rebuild, a full restoration to the braking system, new bushings throughout the car, resealing of the steering box and a full transmission rebuild and engine service and reseal. After many successful shakedown miles and four long years, 3091GT was finally deemed “Complete”.
We are proud to offer one of the best Ferrari 250GT Series II Pininfarina Cabriolets we have seen in many years. With a recent cosmetic restoration and an extensive in-house service, this 250 is ready for your next Grand Tour or Concours, we’ll let you decide.
