Beschreibung

In the 1960s mid-engine designs started to dominate motor racing but remained very exotic and a rare sight in road cars. Even Enzo Ferrari considered this layout too risky for his 12-cylinder engines to sell them to the general public. From 1968, a new line of 2 seaters was marketed under the Dino name. The Dino 206 GT was followed in 1969 with the more powerful Ferrari Dino 246 GT and its open version Dino 246 GTS whose production went on until 1973. The Dino 308 GT, presented in 1974 had a 8-cylinder engine but as 2+2 seater was available only with a Bertone designed coupé coach work. Certainly not an easy task, combining 2+2 seating with a mid-engine layout! The Dino 208 GT/4 was presented after the decision to offer the 308 GT/4 with a smaller 2 litre engine especially for the Italian market where punishing taxes on any engine above 2 litres were in force. The Dinos engine capacity was brought to 2’000 cc by limiting the engine bore but the stroke remained the same as on the three litre engine. The 1’990 cc engine now delivered 170 horsepower allowing the 208 to reach a still very respectable 220 km/h. The car offered was first registered in Italy in June 1975 and on the 20th of December 1985, with 67’000 kilometres driven, imported into Switzerland by a lady owner. As a value estimate from August 1986 indicates, the Dino then had been completely restored, and the owner drove it only sparingly over the following 38 years. In 2015 when the Veteran status was given to the car, only 78’908 kilometres were indicated. At that time the car was parked and not driven any longer. At the end of 2024 the Ferrari was taken over by a specialist who performed mechanical work such as replacing the cambelt. With now not even 79’100 kilometres driven, the little Dino is in good to very good condition and thanks to its recent Veteran MOT from January 2025 can be registered immediately
