Ranked among the world’s most beautiful and engaging sports/GT cars, Ferrari’s Dino 206 and 246 remain historic as the marque’s first V-6, mid-engine road models. Steeped in Ferrari’s victorious Dino V-6 racing heritage since the latter 1950s, the 2.0-liter Dino 206 GT (1968 only) and 2.4-liter Dino 246 were the fruits of a joint Ferrari-Fiat effort to meet F2 racing-homologation requirements enacted for 1967. The 246 GT (produced 1969–1974) and Targa-roofed 246 GTS (produced 1972–1974) proved quite popular, especially in North America. For many Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts, the 246 GTS is the most coveted today, with just 1,274 built.

This 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, chassis 05714, carries a well-documented provenance supplied by Matthias Bartz, author of The Dino Compendium, Ferrari Market Letter, and online Dino Register. Built on May 25, 1973, 05714 was factory-finished in rare Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato (Cordoba Red Metallic) over beige leather. Following assembly, it was shipped to Chinetti- Garthwaite Imports Inc. in Pennsylvania. The first known owner is Albert Goldman, who acquired the car in 1973 and was followed by a number of owners – all located in the Northeastern US. Following cosmetic restoration in 1996, including a bare-metal strip and repaint in the original color and interior restoration, 05714 was subsequently acquired by James Berman of Vienna, Virginia, who won FCA Platinum honors with the car at the 1997 FCA North American Concours in Leesburg, Virginia. The next owners of 05714 were William Paterakis of Maryland (2004–2008), Scott Cerasoli of Phoenix (2008–2014), and the consignor, with the Dino receiving comprehensive maintenance, confirmed by detailed invoices and correspondence on file.

Under the current ownership, the Dino’s brakes were overhauled in 2018 and, in 2019, the engine was overhauled and the gearbox fitted with new synchronizers. Following a 95.5-point judging score at the 2019 Cavallino Classic, the Dino was elevated with fine details addressed, resulting in the Platinum Award at the 2020 Cavallino Classic with a 99-point score. The Ferrari also received best of show honors at the prestigious FCA Cars on 5th show in Naples, Florida in February 2020. As offered, 05714 has accumulated only an approximate 39,000 miles – progressively documented by service records and vehicle history. In addition to a concours tool kit, the Dino includes ownership history spanning from 1978 to 2003 from Jim Weed of Ferrari Market Letter, plus correspondence with Dino expert Matthias Bartz regarding factory build records and provenance. Service invoices, parts receipts, sale paperwork, and correspondence are included from the current and two previous owners. Creature comforts include Daytona-style seats, air-conditioning, and power-window lifts. In summary, 05714 is simply a wonderful, concours-quality example of the perennially desirable and collectible Dino 246 GTS in all possible respects.
