Trade-in car. Our Ferrari 208 GT/4Dino left the factory in 1976. It was registered on the 26th March 1976. Marcello Gandini is the top designer who signed off on the designs for the Dino 308 and 208 in the early 70’s when working for the Bertone studio.

The Dino 208 GT4 was actually a Dino 308 GT4 we know so well but because of sky-high Italian taxes for thirsty V8’s in the ’70s, Ferrari decided to introduce a V8 with a sub-2-litre engine volume. Hence the Dino 208 GT4 was born. That made Ferrari officially the manufacturer of the smallest V8 ever put in a production car. The V-shape arranged 8 cylinders all rumble in a well-known fashion. Delightful and just as it should be! The 208 numberings is directly related to the 2.0 litre V8 mid-engine, good for a top of 220 km/hr.

The Dino 208 GT4 was in many ways a trailblazer for Ferrari being the first Ferrari to be built with a mid-engined V8, a design that would continue to dominate for the next decennia. It was also the first Studio Bertone designed production, Ferrari. Pininfarina was fairly upset by the decision to give its city rival Bertone the go-ahead for the design, considering everything they had done in the past for Ferrari. The angular styling was completely different to its sculpted 2-seater brother, the Dino 246 GT and fairly controversial at the time. The driver can only see the road from the cockpit. Enzo Ferrari played a large role in the design and even had a mock-up made for himself to try out various steering wheel, pedal and cockpit positions. On 840 cars were built. A lot less in Ferrari-red.

The peak power of 170 Ps (125kW) came at 7,700 rpm, with a top 220 km/hr. Smaller Weber 34 DCNF carburettors, a lower final drive gear ratio and thinner tyres completed the technical changes for the Dino 208 GT4. Chrome highlights instead of black ones and the absence of fog lights were external markers of the GT4’s with smaller engines. Inside the 208 GT4 has a black dashboard instead of a silver coloured one.

Our Ferrari 208 GT/4Dino has a lovely colour scheme of a red exterior and a tan leather interior. The engine runs nice and smoothly and the gear change is exquisite. The straight bodywork is rust-free and every alignment of its panelwork is just as it should be. The weight distribution, the sound and the price level all add up to the very fact you won't be able to avoid fulfilling one of your cherished wishes!
