- An icon which was owned when new by the rich and famous in the world

In its relatively short life, the French firm of Facel produced approximately 2,900 cars, all of which were stylish, luxurious and fast. Hand built, they were, of course, necessarily very expensive the Facel II was priced in Rolls-Royce territory and were bought by the rich and famous seeking something exclusive and distinctive.

The roll call of owners includes royalty, politicians, diplomats and entertainers like Tony Curtis, Danny Kaye, Ringo Starr, Joan Fontaine and Ava Gardner being counted among the latter. Confirming that there was high-performance substance behind Facel’s unquestionable style, they were owned and driven by great motor racing figures such as Sir Stirling Moss, Maurice Trintignant and Rob Walker.

In March 1956, a full year after the introduction of his predecessors FV, FV1 and FV2, the first FV2B left the factory. Of the FV2B, which was produced until November 1956, only 74 examples were build.

Among public and press, the new Facel was well received. The car already had some of the later Facel Vega characteristics, like the ‘wraparound panoramic windscreen’, but was still equipped with single headlights (instead of the later twin stacked ones).

At the time of the introduction of the FV2B, Facel Vega’s star was rising waiting lists were as long as 8 months. There was no need for publicity as a Facel sold itself.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

In the past the Facel was not really recognized by collectors and the value was lower then the extremely high costs of a restoration.
It is therefore hard to find very nice examples nowadays.

In the case of this example it’s certainly the opposite as we can offer an extremely nice Facel Vega FV2B which has a very unique detail amongst it’s beautiful condition.
It is a car fitted with a manual gearbox.

Most of the Facel Vega’s were fitted with an automatic gearbox but the driving experience is not fantastic with an automatic gearbox because the power of the engine is blocked by the 3 speed automatic gearbox.

This Facel has the unique feature that it has a manual gearbox which makes the driving experience much more impressive.

The Facel is newly delivered in Paris on a so-called export registration. The first owner was Mr. Ted Basset who most probably made an European road trip and after this trip the car was shipped to the United States.

In 1990 the Facel was still registered in the USA. Around 2012 the car was bought by the former Belgium owner who carried out serious work on the car by a Facel specialist.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

This beautiful Green Facel Vega Coupé presents extremely well. The paint exhibits a deep shine and is in an exceptional condition for a Facel. The aluminium parts are all in a very nice condition.
The gaps and fittings are excellent.

The car has brand new tires (Vredestein Sprint Classic)

CONDITION INTERIOR

The sleek bodywork and fine details on the outside do not only cover the big Hemi V8, but the car also has an interior that will make you feel special when you drive or ride along.

Everywhere you look, you can see the efforts those craftsmen most have made.

Inside it feels more like a yacht than a car. The interior has proven it wasn’t just a showcase of period luxury, it was also very stylish and timeless.

Where most luxury cars become old fashioned during time, especially car interiors, the French car builder has proven how to set up a car interior that can not just match an exquisite, tasteful exterior, but also how a car interior can beat aging, trends and fashion.

It was made to look good and last forever, so it seems.

People noticed these qualities and therefore the car was a success and sold itself without lots of involvements of dealerships.

This interior show beautiful leather seats in a wonderful condition. The carpets have been fully renewed on a period correct way.

The dashboard which seem wood but is as original wood painted steel is beautiful.

Actually the interior is absolutely superb and as a sort of gift, the car comes with an original luggage set in the same color as the car interior.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Although most Facel Vegas find their way nowadays to car collections for their beauty and rarity, driving a ‘Véga’ is an experience that will please many people. Especially this FV2B, with its powerful four barrel hemi V8 and manual gearbox. It feels like a gran turismo that likes to accelerate out of corners as much as it loves to cruise at low and high speeds. From boulevards to the Autobahn and country roads: for a car of the 50’s that can seat four people in style and comfort, there’s no substitute.
