Beschreibung

"Positioned to compete against the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird in the upper end of the pony car market segment, the Challenger used the same unibody platform as Plymouth's new Barracuda but its wheelbase was 2” longer to provide slightly more rear-seat room. Exterior design was penned by Carl Cameron, who was also responsible for the exterior designs of the 1966 Dodge Charger. Cameron based the 1970 Challenger grille on an older sketch of a stillborn 1966 Charger prototype that was to have a turbine engine. As in most US classics, it came with a large number of trim options making each one quite individual. Dodge muscle cars were among the fastest and wildest on offer with an astonishing range of engine choices from a docile slant six to the earth-shaking Hemi. This was Dodge's way of getting attention.
Offered in gleaming Nevada white as a tribute to Kowalski's rubber-burning ride in the cult 1971 film, Vanishing Point, this Challenger has been restored to a very high standard over a five year period culminating in the car winning second place at the 2019 Stars & Stripes Tatton Park American car show. The car itself is correct to the VIN, with the correct refurbished type 440ci 390HP V8 replacement engine fitted with the new six pack carburettor set up. It has also been fitted with a refurbished 727 three-speed automatic gearbox, back axle and limited slip differential by Hauser Racing, to complement the all wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering coupled to an overhauled stock suspension with new bushes and ball joints, all of which make the car more driveable in modern traffic whilst still retaining the original look. To complement the car, power brakes with Right Stuff four disc brake conversion plus rack and pinion steering has been fitted.
The car sounds frankly amazing, the 440ci V8 is mated to a full custom S/S exhaust system and with the overhauled, high compression pistons and mild cam is believed to produce circa 500 bhp. A blip of the throttle makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and pressing the fun pedal to the floor is like very few other experiences with a real attack on the senses. Offered with a collection of invoices and a UK V5C registration document, few cars at this price bracket can be considered so iconic and exciting, viewing is highly recommended.

J = Challenger, S = Special, 2 = Two-Door, 3 = Hardtop, V = 440 V8 ‘Six Pack’, 0 = 1970, B = Hamtramck factory, 440675 = Serial Number
