Beschreibung
Launched in 1970, the De Tomaso Pantera combined Italian styling with the power of an American-made V-8 engine. With wedge styling credited to Tom Tjaarda of Ghia, and a steel unibody monocoque chassis devised by former Lamborghini engineer Gian Paolo Dallara, final assembly transpired at Ghia’s factory in Vignale, Italy. Early impressions were favorable with automotive journalists, noting the Pantera’s design made the contemporaneous Corvette look tame by comparison. Sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, Pantera imports ceased in 1974 with only 6,091 brought into the US.
A late-production “L” model – standing for “Lusso” or luxury – with updates that remedied many issues suffered by earlier cars, this 1974 De Tomaso Pantera L was completed in September 1973 and delivered to Clark & White Inc., a Lincoln- Mercury dealership in Boston. Equipped with a 351 cid Ford “Cleveland” engine mated to a five-speed ZF transaxle, additional features included a push-button radio, air-conditioning, power windows, and 15" Campagnolo wheels. Showing 4,983 miles on the odometer, and still shod with its original Goodyear Arriva tires, this Pantera displays in unrestored and unmodified condition today.
This Pantera is accompanied with its manual, spare, inflator bottle, Italian-made Battaini jack, Deluxe Marti Report, and a copy of the dealer invoice in the name of its longtime first owner from 1974 to 2021. Awaiting its next caretaker, the low mileage and original condition of this Pantera is unparalleled.
