By the early Thirties Citroen had enjoyed considerable success, having expanded from the proverbial little acorn into a vast oak tree with high sales and demand: expansion had also included new factories in Germany, Italy, Austria and England, the latter, in Slough, opening in 1926. A new factory was also built to produce the revolutionary Traction Avant of March 1934. Not only was front wheel drive employed, but also the low-slung body was of unitary construction, front suspension independent via wishbone/torsion bar, the radius-arm located live rear axle was sprung by transverse torsion bars, and the brakes were fully hydraulically-operated.
