At Citroën, the SM was a special car, and its originality remains fascinating. Its sporty appearance featuring a bank of six headlights was combined with the manufacturer's innovative engineering, based on a sophisticated hydraulic system controlling the suspension, brakes and variable power-assisted steering. This gave the SM excellent road-handling without sacrificing the level of comfort. For the mechanical elements, Citroën turned to Maserati. The result was a four-cam V6 engine that, from 1972, was given fuel-injection, increasing power to 188 bhp and giving the streamlined Coupéé a top speed of 230 km/h. A rocket on the autoroute, the SM could also navigate difficult terrain, as evidenced by its results in rallying.
Between 1973 and 1977, this SM was registered in Paris. It was bought by André Trigano in 1979, as recorded on the registration document (20 February 1979). He was the car's third owner. The black roof has been repainted, but there are a few spots of corrosion at the bottom of the doors and on the front wings. The body is presented in metallic gold, and there is a crack in the windscreen. Inside, the black leather upholstery is in nicely patinated original condition. Complete with Voxson radio, the futuristic dashboard is impeccable and the odometer displays 50 423 km. Correctly presented, this SM with fuel injection has the bonus of having just three owners from new, a sign of regular care and maintenance.
