Beschreibung

In addition to its groundbreaking design and engineering, based on that of the DS19, Citroën’s strong-selling ID19, and its variants, proved exceptionally adaptable and versatile. Introduced in 1958, the ID-based wagons saw production of nearly 94,000 examples, yet they are extremely rare in the US today. Simply known as the “Wagon” in North America, the “Safari” in the UK, and as the “Break” or “Familiale” in Europe, these distinctive and useful vehicles utilized a steel roof, rather than the fiberglass roof of the sedan. Unlike their sedan counterparts, ID wagons shared Citroën’s famed hydropneumatic suspension system and power-assisted brakes throughout production.

Other differences characteristic of the Break included deletion of the rear fender skirts, while the single-bolt attachment of the rear fenders remained. Upgraded rear underpinnings delivered additional cargo capacity with longer control arms, larger suspension rods and hydraulic cylinders, plus enlarged rear brakes. Power steering gear was optional for the ID Wagon from late-1962, and manual transmissions were solely available throughout production. Interestingly, the super-smooth ride of the ID Wagon encouraged its use as a camera car by the UK’s broadcasting company BBC. It was also commonly utilized as an ambulance and hearse in France.

This 1967 Citroen ID21F Break was acquired by the Mullin Collection in Europe in 2016. Power is delivered by a 2,175 cc inline four-cylinder engine and column-shifted four-speed manual gearbox with front-wheel drive. Its extended roofline suits the basic ID-series styling theme extremely well and includes a roof-mounted luggage rack, folding second-row bench seat, and versatile side-facing folding jump seats to the rear. As offered, it provides the possibility of enjoyable classic touring with family and friends.
