Citroën is very much inspired by the station wagon fashion in the USA to develop its DS station wagon project. It is the result of two years of research aimed at offering customers a versatile vehicle that is both practical for craftsmen and family-friendly, while retaining the elegance and technology of the sedan. This concept in 57, very popular in the USA, was only represented in France by the Simca Marly V8 station wagon. Pierre Franchiset, the man who designed the H type, designed a very elegant, practical and fast station wagon for the time. At the Paris Motor Show in 1958 the car was presented but was not released until one year later. Produced from 1959 to 1975, it will be a considerable worldwide success.
The model presented here is one of the last estate cars manufactured for the 1975 model year. It was bought new by a teacher from Nantes who walked his little family with it until 1996. Date on which the current collector finds this car while living in Brittany. This Citroën is therefore a real second hand and still kept its original registration number "RT 44" until recently. Mr. M. undertook a first restoration in 1996 of the bodywork. The car had been in good and loyal service for 20 years and had some inevitable traffic stigmas. Once the bodywork has been dismantled and repainted, the bodybuilder will take advantage of this opportunity to treat hollow bodies as a preventive measure. The mechanics have always benefited from rigorous and regular maintenance. In 23 years it will only cover 23,000 km. The certified mileage to date is 156,000 km. In 2010, a major restoration of the upholstery was undertaken with the change of the fabric to Jersey blue and it was then that the car was repainted in magnificent Delta blue, in accordance with the colour chart of the time. On this occasion the entire bodywork is dismantled and repainted in the interior parts in pinkish grey. Michelin tires are new, as are the spheres and the stainless steel exhaust. Often acclaimed by the brand at commemorative events, this station wagon was exhibited twice on the Citroën stand during Rétromobile, during the 50th anniversary of the DS, then for the brand's 90th anniversary on the Champs Elysées and finally for the 100th anniversary in the 15th in Paris. During the test, the station wagon proved to be in perfect mechanical condition. The gearbox is smooth, the brakes powerful, and what a comfort! This is the opportunity to acquire a beautiful and original DS station wagon, perfectly maintained and with a clear history, that can take family or friends on a journey to the end of the world.
