In 1955, Citroën introduced the revolutionary DS19 sedan. Despite new coachbuilt cars being few and far between at that time, Henri Chapron made body modifications to a DS19 in 1958, without the endorsement of Citroën. Chapron’s name was synonymous with exquisite coachwork of French marques including Delahaye, Talbot-Lago, and Delage throughout the 1930s. Following the success of his La Croisette Cabriolet, Citroën allowed Chapron to buy chassis directly from the factory.

Despite Citroën creating high-end variations of the DS, such as the Pallas and Prestige, some customers desired even more exclusivity and luxury. The Concorde was introduced along with the Le Caddy and Le Dandy and only 38 examples of the Concorde were built. It offered a coupe design like the Le Dandy but with additional comfort for the rear passengers with its notched roofline. All technical innovations such as the swiveling headlights, hydropneumatic suspension, and five main-bearing engines were incorporated into the Chapron Citroëns.

Following an extensive restoration in 2011, this Concorde was acquired by the Mullin Collection in 2016. The Citroën was displayed at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® and has been on display at the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California, since that time. Finished in a charming dark red metallic and silver paint scheme over a dark red leather interior, this DS19 Concorde offers collectors a unique piece of postwar French coachbuilding history.
