Interesting to know: the name DS is pronounced 'déesse' in French and means 'Goddess'. Many replicas of the DS cabriolet have been built, but the one we are offering is a rare original convertible from 1962: a Citroën DS 19 Cabriolet Chapron built by Parisian coachbuilder Henri Chapron based on the iconic Citroën DS. About 1,200 examples of this cabriolet version were built from 1960 to 1971, of which about 180 were built in 1962. So the one we are offering is an early built example and all the more special because of its beautiful original condition. This includes the beautiful, striking red leather interior and the black fabric convertible roof (which opens and closes properly). The red returns around the disc-wheels and contrasts fantastically with the unique body colour 'Blue Nuage'.

The car comes with authentic French documents such as the registration certificate and workshop manual. The car was owned by the same French owner at least from 2008 to 2022. Since then, the car has been completely checked technically and a lot of maintenance has been carried out, including fitting new tyres, new spark plugs, new track rods and adjusting the engine and tensioning the V-belts. The hydraulic system has also been completely overhauled and fitted with new parts. The underbody is as nice as the bodywork and engine bay. The Chapron drives very comfortably, the manual gearbox shifts smoothly and braking feels smooth. The engine starts and runs very well. The combination of the suppleness of the well-known hydraulic suspension and the open roof is perfect: an ideal 'voiture' for stylish touring. The feeling could hardly be more French, inviting you to take a generously filled picnic basket with baguettes and red wine in the boot. The optical condition is superb: the bodywork is in very good condition and the patina of the original interior gives the car an extra dimension. From here, one looks out over the distinctive steering wheel with only one spoke and the beautiful dashboard including the horizontal speedometer, clock and optional radio. A special feature of this radio is that it is original and works well. The more than 60-year-old convertible top shows how original this car is. The French name 'Godin' comes into its own with the 'grandeur' of this example!

When Citroën presented the DS (also known as 'Pike' because of its distinctively designed front end) in 1955, the world was impressed by its refined and futuristic design. In 1960, Citroën added to that with the Chapron-built convertible version. The Chapron is a luxurious and comfortable convertible with a striking and streamlined design that - like the regular DS - came from the hand of Bertoni. So, contrary to what one might suspect, the DS was an Italian design! Not only was its appearance highly refined and futuristic for the time, the car was also technically advanced: the DS featured front-wheel drive and hydraulic suspension. The 1.9-litre 4-cylinder engine produced 83 hp. The interior provides space for four people and features high-quality materials and comfortable seating. Because of its limited production numbers, the DS 19 Cabriolet Chapron has today become a valuable collector's item for car enthusiasts around the world.

Interessant zu wissen: der Name DS wird im Französischen 'déesse' ausgesprochen und bedeutet 'Göttin'. Es wurden viele Repliken des DS-Cabrios gebaut, aber das, was wir anbieten, ist ein seltenes Original-Cabriolet aus dem Jahr 1962: ein Citroën DS 19 Cabriolet Chapron, das vom Pariser Karosseriebauer Henri Chapron auf der Basis des legendären Citroën DS gebaut wurde. Von dieser Cabriolet-Version wurden von 1960 bis 1971 etwa 1.200 Exemplare gebaut, davon etwa 180 im Jahr 1962. Das von uns angebotene Exemplar ist also ein frühes Exemplar und aufgrund seines schönen Originalzustands etwas ganz Besonderes. Dazu gehören die schöne, auffallend rote Lederausstattung und das schwarze Stoffverdeck (das sich ordnungsgemäß öffnen und schließen lässt). Das Rot kehrt an den Scheibenrädern wieder und bildet einen fantastischen Kontrast zur einzigartigen Karosseriefarbe 'Blue Nuage'.

Das Auto kommt mit authentischen französischen Dokumenten wie der Zulassungsbescheinigung und dem Werkstatthandbuch. Das Auto war mindestens von 2008 bis 2022 im Besitz desselben französischen Besitzers. Seitdem wurde der Wagen technisch komplett durchgecheckt und zahlreiche Wartungsarbeiten durchgeführt, darunter die Montage neuer Reifen, neuer Zündkerzen, neuer Spurstangen sowie die Einstellung des Motors und das Nachspannen der Keilriemen. Auch das Hydrauliksystem wurde komplett überholt und mit neuen Teilen ausgestattet. Der Unterboden ist ebenso schön wie die Karosserie und der Motorraum. Der Chapron fährt sich sehr angenehm, das Schaltgetriebe lässt sich leichtgängig schalten und die Bremsen sind weich. Der Motor startet und läuft sehr gut. Die Kombination aus der Geschmeidigkeit der bekannten hydraulischen Federung und dem offenen Dach ist perfekt: eine ideale 'voiture' für stilvolles Reisen. Das Gefühl könnte kaum französischer sein und lädt dazu ein, einen großzügig gefüllten Picknickkorb mit Baguette und Rotwein in den Kofferraum zu stellen. Der optische Zustand ist hervorragend: Die Karosserie ist in einem sehr guten Zustand und die Patina der originalen Innenausstattung verleiht dem Wagen eine zusätzliche Dimension. Von hier aus blickt man auf das markante Lenkrad mit nur einer Speiche und das schöne Armaturenbrett mit dem horizontalen Tachometer, der Uhr und dem optionalen Radio. Das Besondere an diesem Radio ist, dass es original ist und gut funktioniert. Das mehr als 60 Jahre alte Cabrioverdeck zeigt, wie original dieses Auto ist. Der französische Name 'Godin' kommt mit der 'Grandezza' dieses Exemplars voll zur Geltung!
