This DS19 cabriolet was sold new to a Mme Fontamer who only used the car at weekends. It is a factory cabriolet that, as was customary, was bodied in Henri Chapron's workshop. A statement by No‰lle-l‚onore Chapron, dated February 2014, specifies: " The DS cabriolet 19, (...), with hydraulic gearbox, chassis #4200263 (...), left Citro‰n on 16 February 1961, and was delivered
to the coachbuilder Chapron on 17 February 1961. This DS cabriolet, the thirty-seventh cabriolet built by Chapron and marketed through the Citro‰n network of dealerships, was bodied with the serial number #8038. (...) The car was liveried by us, in "Rouge Rubis" paint, with " black " leather interior and grey carpets. It was fitted by us with an adjustable left front seat. It left our workshop on 27 May 1961 to return to Citro‰n and be marketed by one of their dealers. " Insofar as the first cabriolets built by Chapron were on an ID base with manual gearbox, this is one of the earliest known, if not the earliest, cabriolets on a DS base. In total, 1,348 cabriolets were built.
In 1976 this DS19 was sold to Italy and between 2004 and 2010 it underwent a complete mechanical rebuild, including components: engine, transmission, brakes, hydraulic system, exhaust and tyres. The car functions with its red liquid according to the original specifications and the owner informs us that the hydraulic box works perfectly without any problems and no noise, and that the car is ready to take to the road to enjoy the Indian summer. Sometime between 2004 and 2010, the coachwork was repainted in its original colour, the upholstery and carpets re-done, and the interior is immaculate. This car is presented today in a rare condition, with no sign of corrosion and the body panels appear to be completely original. The car comes with a Chapron file and the DS19 repair manual. Historically, this is one of the most important DS cabriolets in existence. Considering its condition and its age, it is bound to attract collectors and enthusiasts of the marque and of this mythical model.
