“Museum condition, an incredible patina of age…”
The second car produced by automotive pioneer André Citroën, the Type C 5 HP was one of the first European cars to be mass-produced, with nearly 90,000 units manufactured.
The 5 HP’s success was partly down to André Citroën’s commercial genius. As one of the first cars available on hire purchase, it was marketed primarily to a female audience – something unusual at the time.
This 5 HP is a flatbed version. It is in its original condition and is believed to have spent most of its life in Haute-Garonne.
Its owner’s plate and the remarkable advertisement on the doors match; it belonged to Abel Athané, a cement manufacturer and stonemason in Saint-Martory, Haute-Garonne. He was also a dealer in ‘gravestones’, which he could sell ‘on credit terms’!
Here is an incredible relic of a bygone era, bearing the inimitable patina of time. Perfect for a sensible mechanical restoration, or to be donated, as it stands, to a museum…
