Nineteen sixty-three marked the 10th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette and it was celebrated with a stunning new Sting Ray design. Penned by Bill Mitchell and Larry Shinoda, the new Corvette was offered in either coupe or convertible body styles. Produced for just five years, the styling impact of this body style can still be seen in modern cars some five decades after it was introduced. The original Sting Ray Corvettes are among the most highly prized of America’s sports cars. The 1967 Corvette marked the final and most highly refined of the groundbreaking and revered second-generation Corvettes.

This breathtaking 1967 Sting Ray convertible was completed on 19 April 1967 and sold new through George Irvin Chevrolet in Denver, Colorado. The car is finished in its original shade of Ermine White with a red stinger along the hood and white convertible top. The Corvette is powered by the legendary 427 ‘Big Block’ 390 hp V-8 engine, making it among the most desirable ‘mid-year’ C2 Corvettes produced. It is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, as well as power steering and brakes. The exterior features side exhaust, a driver’s side mirror, and thin redline tires mounted on Rally wheels. The Corvette’s interior is correctly trimmed in red vinyl, as original, and features a wood-rimmed steering wheel, clock, and factory AM/FM radio with power antenna. Factory air conditioning also adds to this car’s impressive list of options.

In 2006, the Corvette was awarded the coveted National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Top Flight award after scoring 94.8 at the San Luis Obispo, California meet. It was most recently shown at the 2016 Bloomington Gold. The Corvette is accompanied by its NCRS Top Flight certificate and judging sheets, Bloomington Gold participation letter, and NCRS Shipping Data Report. Part of a significant Texas collection in recent years, this Sting Ray remains very much in the way it left the St. Louis, Missouri plant in 1967.

Combining blistering performance, aggressive good looks, and a show-winning authentic restoration, this 390-hp Sting Ray is ideally suited for continued exhibition, club events, and spirited driving on two-lane country roads. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/0120.
