Fully rebuilt with a new Holly 1850SA carburettorThe Powerglide transmissionhas been totally stripped and refurbishedIncluded with a great file containing details of the restoration,a glove box car manual and the genuine Corvette Black Book 1953 - 1989Now in its seventhgeneration, the Corvette began life in 1953 with the C1 - a model that inspired a generation of young Americans and gave the Ford Empire a nine-year headache. However it was the C2, the immortal Sting Ray produced between 1963 and 1967, that really set Chevrolet's cash registers ringing and left us with the most desired and collectable Corvette to date. Designed by Larry Shinoda under the guidance of the legendary Bill Mitchell, influences on the Sting Ray's unique and unforgettable form are said to include: the E-type Jaguar, a Mako shark once caught by Mitchell, the 'Q Corvette' concept car of 1957 and the 'Mitchell Sting Ray' design exercise. By the autumn of 1959 elements of the two unique Corvettes had been built into XP-720 - the design programme that led to the production of the Sting Ray as we know it.This handsome C2 Corvette emerged from the St Louis plant in 1966 finished in Rally Red, fitted with a small-block (5.4-litre) V8 mated to a Powerglideautomatic gearbox and factory fitted with 'Four Seasons' air conditioning, power steering, aleather interior, 36-gallon tank, power brakes and a recessed spare wheel. We understand from the information sheet with the car that it has benefitted from a substantial mechanical and electrical restoration.Owned since 1989by its previous keeper we understand that the restoration includedthe full renewal and upgrade of the Wilwood disc braking system (power brake extra option), radiator and cooling system renewal, rewired with an original cotton loom, full strip and skim, re-chroming and enamelling with every panel perfectly aligning, renewal of the petrol tank and the full refurbishment of the engine bay parts, equipment and controls including power steering reservoirs. The small block (5.4-litre) V8 has been fully stripped, rebuilt and topped with anew Holly 1850SA carburettor and the 'Powerglide' automatic gearboxhas been totally stripped and refurbished. Our vendor's widow is currently unable to locate anypaperwork in relation to the engine and gearbox rebuild as it was done some year's ago by her late husband, so prospective purchasers will have to form their own opinion. She did say, however, that "The guy who had been working on it said it was an absolute pleasure to work on and sounded lovely".The Rally Red paintwork has a lovely shine and is in particularly good condition as is the interior with all new electrics and some new gauges,re-stitched leather seats and matching mats. The car sits well on five-spoke polished wheels with three-eared spinners and excellent, 'pencil whitewall' tyres. The car's UK registration, VAM 721D,looks good onrare 'States Plates'.With the car are a number of useful publications including; Corvette Wiring Diagrams 1953-'72, a Holley Carburettor Manual, 1966 Factory Assembly Manual and original owner's guides from 1965 and 1966. The history file contains around three dozen invoices from Rock Auto.com, Rik's Corvettes and Corvette Kingdom.1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Coupe (C2)https://youtu.be/x_LCAatMCEsfalse
