In 1962, the 327 cubic-inch V-8 replaced the venerable 283 V-8 in all Corvettes. Up to 360 horsepower was now available with optional Rochester Ramjet fuel injection and solid lifters—ample evidence that the horsepower race of the 1960 was well underway. Suddenly, the 160-mph speedometer on the Corvette’s dash didn’t seem so silly. For the first time, the base price of a Corvette topped $4,000, and gone was the contrasting paint color in the body side coves.

Curb weight remained the same as the prior year despite being burdened with more equipment and structural reinforcements to improve rigidity. This was done by eliminating the unnecessary bulk in the layers of the fiberglass skin in what would become the final version of the first-generation Corvette. The 1962 models shared the ducktail rear introduced in 1961, which foreshadowed the yet-to-be-introduced 1963 Sting Ray. The 1962 Corvettes were the first to come with rocker moldings made from one-piece stamped aluminum featuring horizontal ribs and bright anodizing. 14,531 were produced for the model year.

Finished in Ermine White with white convertible and red vinyl interior, this Corvette features the 250-horsepower, 327-cubic inch V-8 shifted via a three-speed manual transmission. It is equipped with optional whitewall tires and an AM Wonderbar signal-seeking radio. The spare tire and jack are included. According to the consigner, it is a “numbers-matching” car that has been the beneficiary of a frame-off restoration during 2011-2012. Since completion it has not been shown at national events.

Since 2017 when the Corvette was acquired by the consignor it has been enjoyed on a regular basis and garaged in a professional car storage facility. Services under current ownership include the carburetor being rebuilt in 2018 and the brakes being addressed in 2020.
