History:
The Chevrolet Chevelle, produced by Chevrolet since 1964, was one of General Motors’ most successful models.
The Chevelle series included various models, some economical, others very powerful and intended for a more demanding target. Although it was also produced in a 4-door saloon version, the Chevelle par excellence remains the two-door coupé version.
The SS set-up represented a high-end version with its own series of accessories and very high performance engines. It was initially available in the version with a 5.4 L V8 engine, then with a sportier 6.6 L, to finish with the most powerful engine ever mounted on a 1970s muscle car: the LS6 7.4 L 450 hp engine. The Chevelle, together with the Pontiac GTO, was among the most popular cars of its time, thanks to its high performance at a reasonable price, becoming one of the most popular cars both on the road and on the track.
There were many accessories installed, like power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission and air conditioning. There were also “aesthetic” accessories like the vinyl roof and white wall tyres.
