The Model: When the Blazer first came on scene in 1968, they filled a gap in the market that had been created by the Scout from International and Bronco from Ford. Blazer’s styling was directly linked to their full-size pickup trucks, which meant these were more of a commercial vehicle. But they could still come out and play. Also, not all Blazers were four-by-fours, with a civilized “grocery getter” version was also offered which found quite a few buyers. They were pickup truck tough, yet more manageable and with a shorter wheelbase, could fit into a garage or parking space meant for a passenger car. Builders and customizers love the Blazer due to the thousands of products that can be used to make these vehicles as individual as possible. Most likely if a product is built for a Chevy truck, its going fit a Blazer with the possibilities almost limitless.

The Car: This Blazer was treated to a complete frameoff build and nothing was overlooked. Modifications to the body and suspension were done by Innovative Street Rods from Lewiston, Idaho. Paint is PPG’s Metallic Blue with Pearl metalflake ghost flames on the hood and fenders which really pop in the right light. Under the hood a 454 big-block V8 sit that was built-to-the-hilt by Beck Racing Engines. At the top sits an Edlebrock Victor Jr “High Riser” manifold with a Holley 650 CFM carburetor. Able to run on regular fuel, it can be peaked and tweaked and was actually dyno checked for 725 HP at the crank. Shifting is done through a Hurst ratchet setup, and for occupant safety, a full roll bar and new racing seats on a custom bracket with RCI 5 point safety belts secure those up front, while a full-width leather bench seat is provided in case others want to join the fun.
