Chevrolet 3100 Pickup from the Advance-Design series
GM Small Block V8 with automatic transmission
Mustang II front suspension and Corvette rear axle
Classic looks combined with modernised mechanicals
With the introduction of the Advance-Design series in 1947, Chevrolet launched an entirely new generation of pickups in the years following the Second World War. Larger cabs, improved visibility and considerably more modern styling made the new trucks not only practical workhorses, but also helped establish the classic American pickup design that remains instantly recognisable today. The half-ton 3100 was one of the most popular versions.
This Chevrolet 3100 was built in 1951 and comes from Arkansas. Beneath its classic bodywork, however, lies mechanical equipment bearing little resemblance to the original commercial vehicle.
Power comes from a Chevrolet Small Block V8 combined with an automatic transmission. At the front, a Mustang II suspension set-up and steering are fitted, while a Corvette axle is used at the rear. The Chevrolet therefore follows a classic American restomod recipe: period looks, a powerful V8 and substantially modernised suspension and drivetrain components.
The practical character of a pickup has also been retained. Two lockable storage boxes are fitted to the load bed, providing secure space for luggage or tools.
The Chevrolet has German registration. This 3100 therefore combines the unmistakable appearance of a post-war American pickup with mechanicals considerably more modern than its 1951 bodywork might initially suggest.
