History
The BMW Z8 was developed as a modern interpretation of the legendary BMW 507, one of the most iconic roadsters ever produced by the marque.
The project first appeared as the Z07 concept in 1997 before evolving into the production Z8.
The design was led by Henrik Fisker and retained many visual references to the 507, including the long bonnet, compact cabin, pronounced rear haunches and twin-kidney front grille.
Underneath its retro-inspired design, the Z8 was extremely advanced for its time.
It featured an extensively aluminium body and spaceframe structure, near 50:50 weight distribution and the BMW Motorsport S62 4.9-litre naturally aspirated V8 from the E39 M5.
Producing 400 PS and 500 Nm, the engine was paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the regular Z8.
This combination of a naturally aspirated BMW M V8, rear-wheel drive and manual transmission makes the Z8 particularly special today.
Only 5,703 examples were produced worldwide between 1999 and 2003, making it one of BMW's lowest-volume modern production cars.
This particular example was produced on 8 December 2000 and first registered on 19 April 2001.
It was originally configured for the German market and remains in its original factory combination of Titan Silver Metallic over Full Black Nappa Leather.
In February 2015, the car was purchased by its current owner directly from BMW dealer Dusseldorp Zwolle in the Netherlands.
The original dealer invoice is still present with the car, together with its BMW service book and Certificate of Conformity.
Today, with 55 436 km, more than a decade with the same owner and a strong original documentation file, this Z8 represents a particularly attractive and well-documented example of one of BMW's most collectible modern classics.
