Beschreibung

"The E46 generation of BMW’s M3 was already an outstanding car, yet BMW’s engineers sought to produce a lightweight, track-ready version for the model’s swansong and in doing so, developed one of the most exciting M-cars on the 3 Series platform since the original E30 M3. The roof was replaced with a carbon fibre reinforced plastic panel, weighing 13 lbs less than its steel counterpart. This material was used throughout the car and no stone was left unturned in making the car as light as possible, including fitting thinner rear-window glass. BMW claims that the M3 CSL tips the scales some 300 lbs lighter than the standard M3. The car is powered by a modified version of the S54 inline six-cylinder engine, rated at 360 bhp and mated to BMW’s SMG II sequential manual transmission. A total of 1,383 M3 CSLs were manufactured of which 422 were for the UK market. The CSL was produced between June and December of 2003, only available in two colours; Silver Grey Metallic (316 cars) and Black Sapphire (106 cars).
Originally registered in March 2004, this CSL has been in our vendors care since 2014, covering around 13,000 during that time. The all-important running in service was completed by Holland Park BMW at 1,046 miles, with a further seven services carried out since then. The car has been upgraded with bigger Alcon brakes, the braking performance is one area which always let the E46 M3 generation down, and KW suspension, another common upgrade usually for aesthetics more than anything else. The overall condition of the car is excellent, the paintwork gleams and the carbon roof has been previously re-laquered, so looks well. The interior is another huge part of the CSL, with carbon door cards and centre console, beautiful alcantara bucket seats and alcantara trimmed steering wheel, all of which have aged well. Our vendor reports the car has been an absolute joy to drive and own, but after nearly a decade of ownership he has decided to try something else and let someone else enjoy the car. With possibly one of the best induction noises on the planet, thanks to the huge carbon fibre airbox and regularly voted as the best M car ever produced, the CSL would be an excellent addition to any collection of significant cars. On offer with a very sensible estimate, this example is sure to appeal to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Interested parties should note that the estimate for this vehicle has been reduced to £60,000 - £70,000. Also an engine management light is illuminated and the diagnostics code is P0430 (downstream oxygen sensor) which we believe should be a very simple fix.
