Beschreibung

BMW Motorsport chassis VLN002, is an original BMW Motorsport Shell, one of just 40 VLN shells built which is believed to have started its early career in UK GT racing with an S62 5l V8 as it has today, before heading abroad where photos show it competing in European Hill Climb events.

After coming back to the UK, and following extensive works including its rare factory suspension, it was invited to Goodwood Festival of Speed to go up the hill (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aemWSLj520I over 130,000 views) and competed at Silverstone classic, winning its class in the hands of Steve Soper.

The current owner acquired the car shortly afterwards and after engine issues at its first race at Brands, the decision was made to embark on a full restoration to factory specification with renowned BMW race specialists, Amspeed Racing, with assistance from Herschel Brewer of Scottsdale Motorsport in the US who works closely with BMW on their heritage collection.

Period correct body panels and aero kit to the latest 2005 specification were sourced including a diffuser reproduced from the museum collection car, along with new old stock original BBS Monoblock wheels.

In total the work took over 2 years and 3000-man hours to complete, with the result being as close to a factory configuration car as we believe possible, with the only significant deviation being the 5 speed Drenth sequential gearbox in place of the Hewland 6 speed h-pattern box. A concession has been agreed to allow the car to run this in light of the original being extremely rare and difficult to run.

The car weighed an impressive 1180kg when compete with the engine producing 560hp giving it race winning potential in the popular endurance legends series.

On its debut in Portimao in 2023 it scored an impressive GT podium despite no testing prior to the event, and it clearly has potential to improve further with more development.
