After the Second World War, the need for automobiles was enormous, but the means were lacking and few families had sufficient budget to acquire a proper passenger car. Thus from the late 1940s the popularity of microcars, often powered by motorcycle engines, but more comfortable than a two-wheeler, increased. Several brands got into this phenomenon. Among them, the Italian brand Iso, unveiled at the Turin Motor Show of 1953 the Isetta, which is distinguished by its single front door that opens by taking with it the dashboard and steering wheel, and giving access to a small two-seater within. An ingenious design, the Isetta seduced other manufacturers who choose to produce the same car under license in their respective countries. This was the case with BMW in Germany, which marketed the BMW-Isetta from 1955. This German version met the most spectacular success, with tens of thousands of BMW-Isettas produced over the years.

The car on offer was purchased in Denmark by the previous German owner. In Denmark the upholstery had been redone, a new hood in white cloth had been put on, and a painting job had been done that suggests that it was not the work of a professional. The current owner assures us that the mechanicals are working well and that Isetta is perfectly usable. It also underwent the German technical inspection TÜV, and is still registered in Germany. The car shows no signs of corrosion and has a rear luggage rack. Being an export version, it is equipped with a 300cc single cylinder four-stroke engine, more comfortable than the normal 250 version. A good representative version of a particular era, fun and original, this rare BMW-Isetta will not fail to seduce enthusiasts.
