In period, Road & Track magazine called the 3.0 "without a doubt, the most sophisticated inline-six in the world."
In factory nomenclature, “E9,” the BMW 3.0 CS Coupe, was a Karmann-built two-door based on the New Class 2000CS. Enlarged to accommodate the M30 engine from the E3 sedan, it had appeared first in 2.8-liter guise. In all, 7,935 were built from 1971 to 1975; with 2,741 in 1973. A 3.0 CSL special homologation version for the European Touring Car Championship competition enhanced BMW’s reputation as a manufacturer of sporting automobiles.
Little changed when the 1973 model came about, leather interior was standard on all 3.0 CS coupes, along with tinted glass, torsion-bar stabilizer and magnesium wheels.
The BMW 3.0 CS offered here is fitted with the standard 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that is paired with an automatic transmission. The exterior is presented with light blue paintwork and complimented nicely by a sporty red interior. Other amenities equipped include a sunroof, power steering, brakes and windows; air conditioning and an AM/FM radio.
