It is rare to come face to face with a genuine BMW 3.0 CSL Gr.2, prepared in period and still in its original configuration, as offered here. This " Leicht " version is 100% original, including the chassis and lightweight body (plastic rear windows, thinner body identified by the more flexible roof) as well as its original engine, exceptional for this model. The car is still presented in its original colour, the famous BMW " Inka Orange ". To confirm its authenticity, it comes with a certificate from BMW Tradition dated 2 June 2006
It is one of three CSL cars prepared in Group 2 by Max Heidegger in 1973, only two of which were orange, complete with the wing extension kit, front BBS spoiler, shorter differential (3.45 :1) and race-prepared engine with three Weber carburettors replacing fuel injection, that increased the power to 240 bhp. A BMW dealer, Heidegger was also a well-known preparer, working in close collaboration with the manufacturer, who generated very good press coverage. He had won the GTS class in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in 1975.
This rare CSL has had only four owners from new, the first a Swiss who took delivery of the car from Autohaus Friedlin, just over the border in Germany as the "Leicht" CSL was not homologated in Switzerland. The car later went to France and belongs today to an enthusiast from Lyon. He bought it to compete in Tour Auto, which he did in 2015, the year that BMW was partner. When he bought the car, it was in its original road configuration, with wide wheel arches, seats, rear bench seat, carpets etc. He had the car prepared for Tour Auto, keeping the original elements which will be passed on to the new owner. Wisely, he also had moulds taken of the wings in case of accident. Mechanical restoration work was carried out at the garage of Thierry Massot, a BMW specialist from Ain. It had a new coat of paint and the race equipment from the best suppliers allows that the car could be easily returned to its original configuration. The brakes are original and as well as the carefully inspected fuel tank.
Twelve BBS wheels come with the car, along with a large history file, correspondence with Heidegger, invoices (including those for work carried out by the current owner totalling 45 000 ), the 2015 FIA Technical Passport and of course the 2015 FFSA technical Passport too.
This 3.0 CSL is eligible for all the most prestigious historic events, including Tour Auto and Le Mans Classic. Here is a rare opportunity to lay your hands on a genuine machine, prepared in period and remaining in its original configuration. Moreover, it can be used both on the road and the track.
