The BMW 2002 Touring combines the characterful styling and engaging driving experience of the legendary 02 Series with the added practicality of a compact estate body. This 1973 example has been upgraded to 2002tii specification, making it an interesting and usable interpretation of BMW's iconic sporting saloon.

At the heart of the car is an authentic BMW 2002tii engine, complete with its Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system, producing 130bhp. The tii was notable as BMW's first fuel-injected production engine, and this example benefits from the additional performance and character that the specification provides. The standard four-speed gearbox has also been replaced by a five-speed overdrive manual transmission, making the car considerably better suited to modern road use. The braking system and suspension have been upgraded to 2002tii specification, further enhanced with 20% uprated road springs and adjustable rear suspension. A Lumenition electronic ignition system, Kenlowe electric cooling fan and stainless-steel exhaust complete the mechanical upgrades.

Finished with original BMW 5Jx13 alloy wheels and 185/70 R13 tyres, the interior combines Recaro front seats with the original split-folding rear seat, trimmed in factory BMW upholstery. The car has benefited from early Ziebart cavity rustproofing, which has been periodically renewed, with further rust prevention and remedial work undertaken more recently, including a recent waxoil treatment. It should, however, be viewed as an honest and usable classic rather than a concours example, with a rip to the driver's seat, a cracked dashboard and a passenger door lock which does not operate correctly. Offered with a full valid MoT test certificate, this is an appealing 2002 Touring with a desirable tii engine, five-speed gearbox and a number of worthwhile upgrades, providing an engaging and practical way into classic BMW ownership.
