“In excellent condition, in perfect working order”
It was at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show that the Bavarian manufacturer unveiled its new mass-produced two-door saloon: the 1602. Although there was no particular need to do so, the result was an elegant and sleek design, which would soon be available in a sporty version known as the 2002 Turbo.
The 1602 is powered by the 85 ch M10 four-cylinder engine, which would soon be turbocharged to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship (with the success we are all familiar with…)!
As noted by the previous owner, our example was fully restored in 2004, before being displayed in a collection in Portugal. In 2023, our 1602 underwent some work to get it back on the road before joining the garage of the current owner, a discerning BMW collector.
Today, the car is in superb condition: the bodywork is as beautiful as the upholstery, and the engine starts first time. Our test drive confirmed that, despite little use recently, this 1602 is still ready to clock up the miles.
